We started out in Aberdeen in 2021 as the Wee String School, with a simple goal: to give our students a more collaborative, well-rounded musical education. By bringing dedicated teachers together, we were able to offer our pupils much more than just their weekly instrument lessons, introducing music theory classes, performance workshops, and a real sense of community.
Since then, we’ve grown organically alongside our students. What began with strings soon expanded to include woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, and voice, alongside popular classes in music history and composition. To reflect this, we rebranded as the Wee Music School in 2024, and today we proudly teach over 220 pupils across Scotland.
Now that our founder, Aden, has made Edinburgh his home, we’re thrilled to be expanding to the capital. We’re bringing the same high standard of teaching, lively concerts, and welcoming community to Edinburgh, while our original Aberdeen school continues to thrive. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to take your playing to the next level, we'd love for you to be part of our story.
At the Wee Music School, we are serious about helping our students reach their potential, and just as serious about having fun along the way. We teach everyone from children as young as five right through to adults in their 80s. We don't mind what level you're at; our goal is simply to support you in building a rewarding musical habit that helps you reach your potential.
Sitting a music exam can be a great way to motivate yourself to practise and stretch your ability. We typically use ABRSM exams and are incredibly proud of our students' track record. The Wee Music School enjoys a 100% pass rate, with 75% of those achieving Merit or Distinction results (as of August 2024).
While we teach a wide variety of disciplines, we particularly excel in orchestral instrument instruction. Our students consistently reach exceptional standards, with former pupils going on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and securing highly sought-after places in both the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) and the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS). We have also proudly watched our students reach the finals of the Scottish Young Musician of the Year competition.
To support this high-level development, we provide opportunities for our students to learn from the very best. We have hosted masterclasses with prominent artists such as Leland Chen, and we actively support and fund our students to attend external masterclasses with distinguished educators like Lyn Fletcher and Lana Trotovšek.
Nothing demonstrates this high standard of achievement better than seeing a student's journey come full circle. We are incredibly proud that Aden's former student, Hannah De Bordes, has returned to Aberdeen and is now teaching with us, having completed her Masters in Violin from the Royal Northern College of Music with Distinction.
